The Revelation of Narnia – Part 01

“I don’t see what it’s made of,” Anabel stroked her hand across the invisible wall. “It’s completely smooth. It feels kind of cool as well. It seems as if I’m looking into a mirror when I look through this door. It looks as if there is another room inside, but you can’t get to it.”
“Well, I do believe you now, Derrick,” Isaac said apologetically. “That is a very peculiar thing. When did you find it?”
“I found it about a week ago,” Derrick replied. “I had known about the secret passage for quite a while, but I did not find this until just recently. The key to the door had been in the lock the whole time, but I never noticed it. Don’t you see how it glows? I wonder why I never noticed it. Oh, I’ll be right back, I want to see if I can remove some of the debris in the hallway.”
“Yes, that is very strange,” Anabel agreed sitting down on one of the chests. Its lid was not fully shut and, the chest suddenly slammed shut. Anabel let out a small scream as she fell just a few inches.
“Are you alright?” Isaac asked. “That was rather frightful.”
“Yes, but—oh,” Anabel bent over and picked up a key on the floor. “I think this must’ve fallen out of the chest when it slammed shut.” She got up and tried to insert the key into the keyhole of the chest, but it wouldn’t fit inside. “Well that’s very odd, now isn’t it?” Anabel remarked as she held the key in her hand.
Derrick returned and immediately asked, “What’s going on?” Isaac and Anabel were inspecting the key that had fallen out of the chest.
“We’re looking at this key,” Anabel replied. “It fell out of the chest I was sitting on, but oddly enough, it doesn’t fit in the chest’s keyhole.”
“That is very strange,” Derrick replied. “Then again, there are many strange things up here in the attic.”
“Maybe it’s a key for something else,” Isaac suggested. “Maybe it’s for one of the other chests. We should try it out.”
“Quite a few of these chests are locked,” Derrick agreed. “Let’s try it.”
For the next hour and a half, Isaac, Derrick, and Anabel went around the room looking for locked chests and trying the key. However, the key didn’t fit in any of the locked chests.
“I give up!” Isaac threw his arms up in the air. “We’ll never find what that key unlocks! It’s impossible! We’ve already tried it in every chest we could find.”
“Maybe the key isn’t for a chest,” Derrick said with a pondering voice. He put his finger to his chin and paced around the musty, old attic. “Maybe the key is for something else. Something like—
“A door?” Anabel asked herself quietly. “That’s it!” she shouted loudly. “I bet that key is for a door of some kind!”
“It can’t be for a door,” Isaac reasoned. “The only door near here is the door over there with the invisible wall. And it’s already open.”
“Well, why don’t we try it just to see,” Derrick suggested. “It couldn’t hurt. Plus, it’s not like we can get scared anymore. We’re in an old, dark attic, a door magically swung open, and there’s an invisible wall inside it.”
“That’s real uplifting, don’t you think?” Isaac remarked sarcastically.
“I’m just saying,” Derrick retorted. “Let’s try that key.” He walked back over to the door. He slammed it shut and took out the other key. “Here goes,” Derrick nervously as he inserted the key into the keyhole of the door. Surprisingly, it fit and twisted smoothly. They all jumped and laughed excitedly. As they did, a very quiet, unnoticeable chime went off from the door and little sparkles came off the key.
“Alright!” Isaac said excitedly. “Come on! Open it!”
Derrick agreed and hesitantly opened the door. He was afraid of what might happen. He opened the door slowly. It did not swing open this time. It still looked the same inside and the invisible wall was still there. Looking at it, it still seemed like they were looking at a mirror. It still seemed as if there was another room; everything was exactly the same as it was before.
“Well,” Isaac said. “I think Anabel and I should be going—
Suddenly, a burst of light came from the invisible wall. It seemed to scatter on the floor and then disappear. The invisible wall shone brightly for just a split second and then turned completely invisible again.
“What was that?!” Anabel and Derrick jumped back. Isaac gulped and stared at the invisible wall. Now, it seemed even more like there was another room. Anabel let out a scream as the invisible wall seemed to melt away. They could see through the doorway now. It was a very bright light, so intense that they could not see what was in the other room.
“Do you think we should—?
“Let’s go inside,” Derrick said quietly. He stepped forward and was about to enter the doorway.
“Is that really a smart idea?” Isaac asked. “This doorway just appeared out of nowhere. Where will it take us? How will we get back?”
“Derrick? Derrick?” a voice called. “Are you up there?”
“Oh no! It’s Mother!” Derrick shouted. He shouted just loud enough so that his mother on the other side of the attic couldn’t hear hm. “Come on! Let’s go! We’ll all be in trouble if she catches us up here!”
Reluctantly, Isaac followed Anabel and Derrick through the doorway.
They emerged in a world unlike any they had ever seen. They appeared on a grassy slope. There was a slight breeze and it was warm. The grass was very soft and the sky was a pretty shade of blue. Trees surrounded them creating only one downhill path.
“Where are we?” Isaac asked once he opened his eyes.
“I don’t know, but wherever it is, it sure is pretty here,” Anabel said marveling at their surroundings. The hill was not very steep, it was a very gentle slope and they were at the top of it.
“The air here is so sweet!” Anabel sighed contently. “I love it already.”
At the bottom of the gentle slope of the hill, the slope became much steeper. At the very bottom of the hill was a pool or lake that was crystal clear, and seemed so blue. It seemed to be about two hundred yards long to get to the other side and it was about four hundred yards wide.
“I say that we should go see that pool,” Anabel said taking off for the bottom of the hill. “It seems so clear and beautiful.”
“Anabel, Wait!” Isaac shouted after her. She took no heed and kept running down to the pool.
“Let’s at least follow her,” Derrick suggested. Isaac shrugged and they took off after Anabel.
At the bottom of the slope, Anabel was kneeling beside the crystal clear pool. The water did not move at all and was completely clear and tinted blue.
“The water just looks so pretty,” Anabel said reaching out her hand.
“Don’t touch it!” Isaac snapped loudly. “You don’t even know what that is!”
“Well I’d say it’s pretty clear that it’s water,” Anabel stood up, hands on her hips. “What else would it be?” she retorted.
“I think we should find a way to get back home!” Isaac crossed his arms. “We don’t even know where we are if you haven’t noticed.”
“Well, maybe we can find someone and ask them where we are,” Derrick suggested. “We might as well, it’s not like we’ll be able to just disappear and end up back in the attic.”
“He’s right, let’s go find someone and ask where we are,” Anabel agreed. As they were leaving, Anabel couldn’t help but look back at the pool. The sun was casting orange rays of light over it causing the serene water to sparkle. “Can we come back here later?” Anabel asked after they had gotten away from the pool.
“If we can find our way back,” Derrick replied. “Who knows?”
When they had gotten back to the top of the hill, Anabel sat down on the soft, green grass. “I’m tired,” she complained.
“Well then rest a while,” Isaac snapped. He was obviously annoyed at being brought to that place. “I never wanted to come here in the first place!”
“Then how did you get here?” a high-pitched female voice asked.
“Who said that?” Isaac asked cautiously as he got up from where he was sitting. Derrick also got up and Anabel did the same.
“I did,” the voice said again. “Are all of you human children so ignorant?”
“Who are you?” Isaac asked looking around. He couldn’t tell if the voice was coming from the trees or from a person.
